‘I remember coming back from that first savasana in a puddle of my own sweat and tears. Everything was the same, but somehow completely different -- something indescribable had shifted. It was as if I had awakened from a decades-long slumber. So I just kept coming back, every day.

Since then, I have tried to remain a student of Life — of “my” life, “your” life, our life. I have become not only a student of breath, body, thoughts and feelings, but also the flutterings of leaves in the wind, waves in the sea, and sweet tail wags of sweet golden retriever puppies!  I try to treat each and every day as its own independent and wondrous adventure. I try to learn, love, forgive, pray, surrender and offer up everything I can muster—to lean into life, especially when it’s tough, and hopefully do just a little bit better than the previous day. While I do stumble and fall short of my best (quite often), I get back up, dust myself off and begin again… and again.

ASHLEY RIDEAUX

Growing up, Ashley lived everywhere from New Zealand to Saudi Arabia before settling in Los Angeles. Through a series of serendipitous events, she found herself in her first yoga teacher training. She spent much of that training sweating, shaking, crying, and waiting for someone to show up and kick her out for not looking like what she thought a yoga teacher should look like. About halfway through, something amazing happened to her—she started getting stronger; physically, yes, but more importantly, mentally. She stopped judging herself, and instead embraced her imperfections. Her hope is to help illuminate the path for others to do the same. Her classes are challenging and playful, ranging from therapeutic work to advanced vinyasa flow. She aims to offer a balance of the physical and the philosophical, inviting the body and mind to unfold through the detail to alignment, breath, meditation, laughter, joy, and always a bit of sass.

JONAH KEST

While his early interests included basketball, boxing, and running track, it became very clear that strength without flexibility would be a hard path. His breath became the very partner that he sought in every activity, every relationship, every moment. Enter Ashtanga Yoga. At 17, Jonah trained under his father to become a teacher. His passion and grace were evident. His equanimity strengthened with a daily meditation sit and it was a natural evolution to teach.

The mind-body connection influenced his life — sharing the practice changed it.

PATTI QUINTERO

Hello, I'm Patti Quintero, mama of two + founder of UMA MOTHER . I have been teaching Yoga + Meditation since 1998, and have worked as a Birth Doula in the Los Angeles area for the last decade. I was born in California and raised in Colombia and Miami. I have had a lifelong passion for teaching and working in the healing arts.

As a child, I sought out moments to express myself and find magic through movement, dance, music and quiet spaces of stillness in nature. I connected with others through teaching and practicing what I would later discover as Yoga and Meditation. After completing my Masters in Education at the University of Miami, I moved back to Los Angeles to teach Kindergarten. It was there that I discovered the importance of sharing the practices that had illuminated and brought so much joy into my life with children and with every human. In 2000 I transitioned to teaching these mindful practices full time and became part of the Yoga Works family where I have taught for the last 20 years.


In 2003, during my first pregnancy, I shifted my focus to working with Mothers and specializing in Pre + Postnatal yoga. My practice and teaching have served as the greatest tools for me to embrace and navigate the powerful metamorphosis into Motherhood from pregnancy to present day. Since having children I have continued to create projects that help support Mothers as they too serve as the lighthouse of their families. I launched SoulShine Colombia, a nonprofit project designed to bring Yoga, Meditation and Clean Water to underprivileged adolescent mothers and their children, created Pre + Postnatal trainings, and am part of the faculty in the Loyola Marymount Yoga Therapy Program.

A few years ago I created UMA MOTHER, a company dedicated to elevating consciousness in mothers lives.  UMA is Mother of the Universe.  This feminine essence is within EVERY Woman and is expressed through our creations, our devotion, and our innate spiritual knowledge. This essence reminds us that when we stand grounded in love, unified in diversity and higher consciousness we can transform and ignite change and growth in every situation.

Simonee Chichester

Simonee has been practicing yoga for nearly 20 years and teaching for almost a decade. She began her practice in the hot room with Bikram and moved over to Moksha/Modo, upon its creation, under the teachings of co creators Jess Robertson and Ted Grand.

Simonee did her 500-hour teacher training in October 2011 in Montreal. Since that time she’s remained curious and committed to being a life long student, continuing to build on her love for yoga by exploring subsequent teacher trainings in Yin, Vinyasa, Yoga Sequencing and Yoga therapy. She has a passion for bringing folks together and also regularly leads yoga retreats that aim to get back to basics by delving deeper into yoga on and off the mat.
